Meet the Trustees

Carol Groves - Chairman
Carol is the founder of the charity, having come across the school whilst on holiday with her family in July 2000. Carol is also currently Chairman of the charity.
She is a member of the Parish Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Rustington. Carol has made strong bonds with the headmaster and teachers at Mwokoeni and plans to return to Mombasa with a group of young people from England each year.
Carol works full time as the Manager of Littlehampton Citizens Advice Bureau.

Chris Azzaro - The treasurer
Chris is the treasurer of Friends of the Mwokoeni Children.
He is the Deputy Headteacher at St Andrew's High School in Worthing and is a local preacher in the Methodist Church. Chris is a supporter of young people's work and hopes to encourage the work in Mombasa as well as forging links between local schools here and in Kenya.

Shirley Fisher - Trustee
Shirley is a retired Customer Services Manager, an active member of the Churchwarden team at her local church and has been involved in the Charity since its beginning.
She is a regular visitor to the Mwokoeni School, where she takes great joy in being with the children and seeing the continual progress being made in their education and wellbeing.

Daniel Purchese - Trustee
Daniel is a professional Campaigns Manager for a national political party and is also a Director of a Sussex-based IT company.
In his spare time Daniel takes part in voluntary work with St. John Ambulance and several other organisations.
Daniel has been a involved with the Friends of the Mwokoeni Children since it started and has visited the Mwokoeni Children's Centre several times over the years. More recently Daniel's work at the school has focused on teaching oral German to older children, as a useful skill for those wishing to work in the Kenyan tourism industry

Lea Stavrou - Trustee
Lea works part-time in the Finance Department of the Inland Revenue in Worthing.
She is married with two young children and caring for them has motivated her to get involved with the charity. Lea is looking forward to many years of sponsored walks, car washing and supporting the Friends in many other ways.
Gemma Collins - New Trustee
Gemma is a Primary school teacher in West Sussex.
She helps to run the youth group 'Connect' at Rustington Methodist Chruch. Gemma is a local guider.
Gemma become involved in the charity before her first visit to the school in 2004. She has made two further visits to the school and aims to help improve the experiences of the children at the school.
