Friends of the Mwokoeni Children - School

The Teachers and their stories

Mr.Joash Obento

I take the "Friends of Mwokoeni" as God's sent people

Ever since they were introduced to our institution a lot has happened. Infrastructures have improved, teachers are being sent to training, children are now smart and happy, teaching resources have improved, there is a feeding programme and so may other things.

It's true that through you friends, tears that children ever cried are drying up and smiles are emerging from their faces ...in future we shall have laughter! more...

Mr. Norbert Were

Praise to God who has made Mwokoeni Children's Centre and school one of the blessed institutions in Kenya. The "Friends of Mwokoeni" have made remarkable changes in the centre. A charitable organisation in England sends a group to our centre annually, under the leadership of the mother of Mwokoeni, Mama Carol Groves. Their love for the centre is growing deeper every year. They carry with them a lot of good things and good ideas to our centre.

If I can just have a flashback before the centre had known the "Friends of the Mwokoeni Children." more...

Mr. Emmanual Yambo

At first when this institution started there wasn't that much that one would see to give them hope that it would reach where it is right now. Even though there were not enough facilities to support the school, hope was still there.

When you take a step to do a good thing, then there are some difficulties and obstacles you will have to encounter in order to achieve your goal and this is what Mr Morris our director did, for he knew success is the ability to move from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm. To gain success you always have to be enthusiastic through you might be discouraged sometimes, but one should have hope that things will work out . more...

Mr.John Ooko

The originally useless place to human beings - only favourable for rats and cockroaches, has now become a meeting point for future engineers, doctors, teachers, lawyers and any other prospective career you can mention. The place now means more than just a Children's Centre. It is even becoming more than just an education centre. Through God's miracle, we can also appreciate the progress of new brotherhood as Muslims orphans forget their past and meet their new Christian "Friends of Mwokoeni". Through our beloved mother Mama Carol, God has made it possible for the cries of our desperate and poverty-stricken children to pierce into the right hands ears and hearts in England. more...

Mr. Humphreys Ayara

It was in 1997 that Mr. John Oondo was inspired to establish a learning institution that accommodates the poor within the society. The school was therefore sited at the Bombolulu slums in Mombasa district. The factor that was considered when choosing the site depended entirely on the economic and social status of the Bombolulu slums. This is composed of the majority of Aids/Orphans and the poor who cannot afford their daily basic needs.

This institution met a lot of problems during its younger stage. First, there were poor classrooms made of temporary structures, thus lack of proper security.Secondly, pupils had difficulties affording school uniforms and teachers' salaries were not supporting them, as their salary was very meagre. John Oondo continued to struggle to overcome some of these obstacles.

At the beginning of this Century (21st) God inspired a group from England led by Mama Carol to join hands with Mr Oondo. more...
